Chris Daniel Recognized With Minister’s Award of Excellence
Chris Daniel and his Community 3DP Task Force at Durham College was a driving force in the collaborative success of Northumberland.io. Not only did Professor Daniel advise our organizing committee with his technical expertise, he ensured critical supply of headbands for thousands of face shields that we produced together to support front-line workers in Northumberland, early in the pandemic when no other supplies were available. Shipments came in from Durham to Northumberland each week and helped ensure the success of our emergency PPE network. Chris’ determination was relentless and he had a huge impact. He (and his students) have achieved well-deserved recognition from the Province of Ontario with the Minister’s Award of Excellence. Congratulations, Chris.

For two solid months, our producer alliance was the sole source of face shields for front-line workers in Northumberland. Looking back, it is hard to believe that our community faced critical shortages of personal protective equipment, and that such an urgent need would be met by a spontaneous effort of passionate volunteers.
Honoured to rise in the Legislature today to speak about the remarkable work being done by the Northumberland Producers Alliance. This remarkable ingenuity, collaborative spirit and volunteerism is what makes our community great. To everyone involved, thank you for rising to the occasion to support our front line workers!
Today marked the planned end of full-scale production at Venture13. Under Production Lead Colin Slade and his team of indefatigable volunteers, we achieved a high water mark in our daily output. We made it to the astounding level of producing an average of 280 units per day, representing a 263% increase in volume of production since April 10th, 2020.
